GhostSpeech Privacy Policy

GhostSpeech is a dictation keyboard for iPhone. You hold or tap to dictate, ask questions, and rewrite text. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your data. We designed it to keep as much on your device as possible and to store the least we can.

The short version

• Your audio is transcribed and discarded. We never store voice recordings.
• The keyboard has no internet access of its own. Network requests are made only by the GhostSpeech app, only when you invoke Dictate, Ask, Rewrite, GIF search, or web search.
• Normal typing is never logged, recorded, or sent. Only the actions you explicitly invoke are processed.
• You control your history. You can delete any item, clear it all, or delete your entire account and data from inside the app.
• Private Mode, on supported iPhones, keeps your speech, typed text, prompts, transcripts, and generated content on your device.

Your account

You sign in with Sign in with Apple. We receive an Apple-provided account identifier and, the first time you authorize, your email address. We use these only to operate your account. We do not use them for advertising and we do not sell them.

Dictation: audio handling

When you dictate, the audio is sent to our server or, in Private Mode, processed entirely on your device, converted to text, and then discarded. We do not store voice recordings. The mic lives in the GhostSpeech app, not in the keyboard; the keyboard borrows it.

Your history

• Ask history stays on your phone. Your Ask conversations are stored locally on your device only.
• Dictation and rewrite history is saved to your account so you can review it across sessions. You control retention: Off, last 10, or All. You can delete any individual item or clear a whole category. Setting retention to Off also removes what is already stored.
• Account deletion removes everything. Deleting your account purges all of the above from our servers.

Help improve GhostSpeech

You can opt in, from Settings > Privacy, to let us keep your transcripts and rewrites, text only and never audio, to improve recognition quality even when history is turned off. This is off by default, you can change it anytime, and deleting your account removes everything kept this way.

Diagnostics

To fix bugs and improve reliability, we collect anonymous diagnostics: device model, timings, and error types. This is metadata only. It never includes your speech, typed text, or transcripts. Diagnostics are de-identified and removed within 180 days. You can turn this off anytime in Settings > Privacy > Share Diagnostics, and it is paused automatically while Private Mode is active. When you delete your account, the account identifier on any remaining diagnostics is anonymized.

What Ask sends

When you use Ask, to answer your question the app may include, with the request: the text around your cursor up to about 4,000 characters, your clipboard text up to about 4,000 characters, and, only if you have enabled the Ask location option, your approximate location rounded to reduce precision before any search. Web search and location features are not available in Private Mode.

Private Mode

On supported iPhones, Private Mode runs dictation, Ask, and Rewrite entirely on your device. While it is active, nothing is sent to our servers, GIF search is disabled, and diagnostics upload is paused. Your speech, typed text, prompts, transcripts, and generated content stay on your device.

The keyboard itself

The keyboard extension contains no networking code. It cannot see your screen, other apps, or anything beyond the text field you are typing in. As iOS requires for every keyboard, secure fields such as passwords are handled by Apple's system keyboard, not ours.

Service providers

We use trusted service providers to operate GhostSpeech, including cloud hosting, authentication, speech-to-text, AI features, search, location, diagnostics, and GIF search. We share only the information needed to provide the feature you choose, operate the app, maintain security, and respond to support requests.

We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or allow service providers to use your content to train their models.

Children

GhostSpeech is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.

Your choices and rights

• Configure history retention, or turn it off, in Settings.
• Delete individual items, clear a category, or delete your entire account and data from inside the app.
• Turn diagnostics off, or opt into Help improve GhostSpeech, in Settings > Privacy.
• Use Private Mode, on supported devices, to keep supported actions on-device.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the new version here and update the Last updated date above.
